TCA Ethera - Concept

Starting with the dramatic Rococo by Charles E. Heyer for Boston Type Foundry, we redirected it toward a softer, more organic expression. Looking at Glaieul flowers and listening to Come To My Garden by Minnie Riperton do help a lot to craft the sweet harmony between the sharp horns and plump curves.

Within the fairly condensed proportions and tight spacing, we carefully bent and shaped details so letters blend smoothly, like the towering redwoods, which stretch skyward yet leave ample space around each trunk, as if each tree knows to grow tall without crowding its neighbor.

A lot of looking into the many fonts and lettering works from the Art Nouveau era also drives our decision to slowly add more flamboyance and ostentation. Somehow, by the end of it, we’ve come to an even more vivacious/divalicious/showy interpretation of the original.

The nine stylistic sets take this typeface even further, making it a book-title darling. The three sets of caps with 3 varying sizes: raise/center/drop should pair beautifully with both uppercase and lowercase. If one wishes to break the rhythm for a bit of air, the set of geometric-round BCDEGOPQRS would work like a charm. Or the other set of BDRP with their hairline tops and the alternate a e.

TCA Ethera belongs on stage. Under the limelight.
